What mobility scooter is right for you?
Easy Mobility Services is focused on helping our customers stay safe and have confidence and independence when using their mobility scooters. If you use a mobility scooter or are considering getting one, it is important to understand the rules of the road and how to ensure your scooter is legal and ready for everyday use.
Where can you legally drive your scooter?
There’s often some confusion around where mobility scooters are allowed. According to the GOV.UK, website, there are two main classes:
- Class 2 scooters are limited to 4mph and can only be used on pavements or footpaths.
- Class 3 scooters can reach speeds of up to 8mph and may be used on the road, but they must also have a limiter switch for pavement use.
To drive legally on the road, your Class 3 scooter must be equipped with working headlights, rear lights, reflectors, a horn, a rear-view mirror, and an efficient braking system. You don’t need a licence or insurance by law, but we strongly recommend both for peace of mind. Supporting safer journeys.
We’re proud to support campaigns like the 2024 Safer Mobility Campaign by SureWise, which aims to raise awareness about scooter safety and encourage good habits across the UK. Whether it’s reminding users to check their battery levels or wear high-visibility clothing, small steps can make a big difference.
